Weather in Algeria

The best time to visit Algeria's northern coastal regions and imperial cities is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when temperatures are mild and pleasant, averaging 18–25°C, and the landscape is at its most lush and colourful. Summer in the north can be hot, particularly in the interior, while winters are cool and occasionally rainy along the coast. Algiers is comfortable to explore year-round but is most pleasant from April to June and in September and October.

For Saharan adventures in the south — the Hoggar Mountains, Tassili n'Ajjer, and the great erg dune fields — late October through March is the optimal window. Desert temperatures during this period are cooler and manageable, ranging from 15–25°C by day, though nights can be bitterly cold and require warm layers. Summer in the Sahara is genuinely dangerous, with temperatures exceeding 50°C, and travel to the deep south is strongly advised against during June through August. The unique rock art sites are accessible year-round but are best enjoyed when the heat isn't overwhelming.
