Frequently Asked Questions
What is a QR code and how does it work?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data as a pattern of black and white squares. A smartphone camera or QR scanner reads the pattern and decodes it into text, a URL, contact details, or other content. QR codes can store up to ~3,000 bytes of data and include error correction so they still work even if partially damaged.
What types of QR codes can I generate?
This tool generates QR codes for: URL (opens a website), Text (displays plain text), Email (opens a compose window), Phone (initiates a call), SMS (opens a pre-filled text message), Wi-Fi (connects to a network automatically), and vCard (saves a contact to the phone's address book).
What does "Error Correction" level mean?
Error correction allows a QR code to be scanned even if part of it is obscured or damaged. There are four levels: L (7% recovery), M (15%), Q (25%), H (30%). Higher levels make the QR code denser and more complex. Use High (H) if you plan to print the code on a surface where it might get scratched or partially covered.
What is the best size to download a QR code for print?
For print use, download at 400px or 512px and ensure the printed size is at least 2 cm × 2 cm. For web use, 300px is usually sufficient. Always test the QR code at the intended print size with a phone scanner before finalising.
Can I use a custom color for my QR code?
Yes. Use the color pickers to set the QR dot color and the background color. Make sure there is sufficient contrast between the two — dark dots on a light background scan most reliably. Avoid light-on-dark or similar-value color combinations, which can cause scan failures on some readers.
