Weather in Argentina

Argentina's enormous size means the best time to visit varies dramatically by region. Buenos Aires and the Pampas are most pleasant in spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May), when temperatures are mild and the jacaranda trees bloom purple over the city's streets. Summers (December–February) in Buenos Aires can be hot, humid, and uncomfortably steamy, while winters are cool but rarely freezing. The wine country of Mendoza is glorious in autumn (March–May) during the grape harvest, and in spring when the Andes backdrop is dramatic.

Patagonia has its own rules — the southern regions around El Calafate, El Chaltén, and Torres del Paine in Chile are best visited from November to March (austral summer), when temperatures are most bearable and days are long. This is also when the famous Patagonian winds are at their peak, so be prepared. Iguazú Falls is spectacular year-round but waterfall volumes are highest after the rains from November to March. Skiing in Bariloche is best from July to September. In summary, spring and autumn are the safest bets for visiting most of Argentina without extremes.
