Weather in Azerbaijan

The best time to visit Azerbaijan depends on what you plan to do. For Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant conditions, with mild temperatures between 18°C and 26°C (64°F–79°F) and clear skies that make sightseeing comfortable. Summers in Baku can be hot and windy — temperatures regularly reach 35°C (95°F) in July and August — though the city comes alive with festivals and outdoor events. Winters are mild by Caucasus standards, rarely dropping below freezing in the capital.

For mountain hiking and exploring the rural regions of the Greater Caucasus — including the famous wine village of Lahij and the alpine meadows around Gabala and Sheki — the ideal season is late spring (May–June) or early autumn (September–October), when the landscapes are green and accessible. The northern mountain areas receive heavy snow from November to March, which makes road travel challenging but creates spectacular winter scenery. Sheki, with its extraordinary Khan's Palace, is particularly beautiful in autumn when the surrounding forests turn golden. The Novruz spring festival in late March is a wonderful time to experience local culture at its most festive.
