Weather in Belize

The driest and most popular time to visit Belize runs from late November through April, when rainfall is minimal, sea conditions are calm, and underwater visibility in the barrier reef reaches its best — often exceeding 30 metres on clear days. December through February brings some of the most comfortable temperatures (24°C to 29°C), ideal for both beach holidays and inland jungle exploration. Easter week is a significant Belizean holiday with festivals and celebrations, particularly in Dangriga where the Garifuna drumming reaches a peak intensity.

The wet season from June through October brings daily afternoon showers, higher humidity, and the genuine risk of tropical storms and hurricanes between August and October — travel insurance covering weather disruption is essential if you visit during this period. However, the wet season has real advantages: dramatically lower accommodation prices, thinner crowds even at popular sites, lush jungle at its most photogenic green, and the spectacular whale shark aggregation around Gladden Spit Marine Reserve from March through June. May and June in particular offer excellent whale shark snorkelling alongside still-manageable weather.
