Weather in Benin

The best time to visit Benin is during the dry season, which runs roughly from November through February. During these months, temperatures are more moderate, typically ranging from 24°C to 32°C in the south, and the harmattan winds from the Sahara bring dry, hazy air but generally pleasant conditions for travel. January is particularly special because Ouidah hosts the annual Fête du Vodoun on January 10th, a spectacular national celebration of spiritual heritage that draws visitors from around the world.

March through May brings increasing heat and humidity before the rains arrive, while the main rainy season in the south runs from April through July, with a secondary wet season in September and October. Travel is still possible during the rainy season, but roads can become difficult, particularly in the north, and some wildlife viewing in Pendjari National Park is best from December to April when animals gather around remaining water sources. If you want the best combination of comfortable weather, wildlife viewing, and cultural festivals, aim for November through February.
