Weather in Bhutan

The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring months of March through May, when rhododendrons burst into bloom across the hillsides and the skies are clear enough to offer stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. Temperatures in the valleys are pleasantly mild, ranging from 10°C to 24°C, making it ideal for trekking and festival attendance. The famous Paro Tshechu festival typically falls in spring, drawing visitors from around the world for its masked dances and religious ceremonies.

The autumn window from late September through November is equally spectacular. Post-monsoon skies are crystal clear, revealing panoramas of Gangkhar Puensum — the world's highest unclimbed mountain — and the surrounding peaks. Temperatures begin to cool, especially at elevation, but daytime hiking conditions are superb. Winter (December to February) is cold but serene, with snowfall at higher altitudes and far fewer tourists. The Punakha Tshechu in February/March is a highlight of the winter-spring transition. Avoid visiting during the monsoon months of June through August, when heavy rains can cause landslides and trail closures.
