Weather in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The ideal time to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina is during late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October). During these shoulder months, temperatures in Sarajevo hover between 15°C and 25°C, the countryside glows with lush greenery or golden autumn foliage, and the main attractions remain comfortably uncrowded. Spring hiking trails in the Dinaric Alps are particularly rewarding after the winter snowmelt feeds cascading waterfalls.

Summer (July and August) brings warm, sunny days perfect for river rafting on the Una and Neretva, though Mostar and Sarajevo can get busy with tourists. Winter, from December through February, transforms the country into a ski destination — resorts near Sarajevo at Jahorina and Bjelašnica, which hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics, offer affordable alpine experiences. Regardless of when you visit, pack layers since temperatures can fluctuate considerably between coastal Herzegovina and the mountainous interior.
