Weather in Botswana

The best time to visit Botswana for wildlife viewing is the dry season, from May to October, when animals concentrate around water sources and vegetation thins, making spotting far easier. June and July offer cool, comfortable daytime temperatures (20–28°C), crisp nights, and peak game density around the Chobe and Okavango. This is when the great elephant congregations of Chobe are at their most spectacular.

The wet season (November to April) brings its own magic — the Okavango transforms with fresh floodwaters, bird life explodes with thousands of migratory species, and the Kalahari turns lush and green. The Central Kalahari in January and February sees meerkats and brown hyenas at their most active. However, some remote camps close in January and February, and safari drives can be difficult on muddy tracks. Budget travelers may find better lodge rates during the green season.
