Weather in Cape Verde

Cape Verde enjoys a warm, dry climate year-round thanks to the northeast trade winds and Saharan influence, making it a legitimate all-season destination. The best period for most activities is November through June, when temperatures are most comfortable (22–28°C), rainfall is minimal, and the trade winds are perfect for water sports. This extended dry season is ideal for hiking on Santo Antão and Fogo, beach relaxation on Sal and Boa Vista, and exploring Santiago's historical sites.

July through October is the hot, humid season with occasional brief rain showers, particularly in the southern islands. Temperatures can reach 33°C and the humidity rises noticeably. However, this is also when ocean swells peak, making it excellent for surfing. Kitesurfers and windsurfers find ideal conditions on Sal and Boa Vista from November through July when trade winds blow most consistently. If attending Mindelo's spectacular Carnival is your goal, plan for the week before Lent — typically February — when the city transforms into one of the Atlantic world's great street festivals.
