Weather in Central African Republic

The most favorable time to visit the Central African Republic is during the dry season from November through April, when roads are more passable, wildlife congregates at permanent water sources, and the forest elephants at Dzanga-Sangha's famous bais are most reliably sighted. The dry months offer the best conditions for overland travel between communities and for accessing the country's remote parks and reserves with specialist operators.

The rainy season from May through October brings high humidity, flooded roads, and difficult travel conditions throughout much of the country — particularly in the south, where the rainforest ecosystem receives its heaviest precipitation. December and January are typically the coolest and most pleasant months. However, given the ongoing security situation, the time of year is secondary to checking current security conditions with specialist tour operators who work in the CAR — Dzanga-Sangha is the primary destination that can be organized relatively safely through established conservation-linked tourism programs.
