Weather in Chad

The best time to visit Chad is during the dry season, which runs from November through March. During these months, temperatures across most of the country are at their most bearable — still warm at 25°C to 35°C in the central and southern regions, and cooler at altitude in the Tibesti and Ennedi. Desert travel is more predictable, roads are passable, and the dust hazards of the Harmattan winds are manageable. January is particularly pleasant, combining cooler nights with clear skies that make photography and overland travel most enjoyable.

Avoid travel during the rainy season, which runs from June through September in the south and can bring extreme flooding. The rains make most unpaved roads impassable for weeks at a time, and access to remote areas like Zakouma National Park or the Ennedi Plateau becomes difficult or impossible. The peak wildlife viewing season at Zakouma, one of Central Africa's most important remaining elephant sanctuaries, runs from December through May when herds congregate and dry conditions make animals easier to spot. April and May bring increasing heat across the country, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C in N'Djamena.
