Weather in Chile

Chile's extreme length means the best time to visit depends heavily on which region you plan to explore. For Patagonia and the south, the summer months of December through February offer the most reliable weather, longer daylight hours, and the best conditions for trekking in Torres del Paine. However, this is also peak season, so book accommodation and park permits well in advance. The shoulder months of October, November, and March provide a good balance of decent weather and fewer crowds.

For the Atacama Desert and northern Chile, the region is essentially visitable year-round due to its dry climate, though winter nights from June to August can be bitterly cold. The Central Valley wine regions around Santiago and the central coast are most pleasant from March to May when the harvest season brings warm days and cool evenings. Easter Island (Rapa Nui) enjoys a mild subtropical climate throughout the year, making it accessible any time, though January and February see the warmest temperatures and festive cultural events.
