Weather in Djibouti

Djibouti has one of the harshest climates on Earth — it is consistently ranked among the hottest inhabited places on the planet. The summer months (June through September) are brutal, with temperatures in the interior regularly exceeding 45°C, making outdoor activities dangerous and uncomfortable. The only viable time to visit for most travelers is the cooler season between October and April, when daytime temperatures drop to a more tolerable 25–35°C and nights can be pleasant.

The whale shark season (November through February) draws divers and snorkelers to the Gulf of Tadjoura, making this the most popular window for nature-focused visitors. January and February offer the most comfortable temperatures and are ideal for hiking to the Ardoukoba volcano or exploring the eerie landscapes around Lac Abbe (famous for its towering limestone chimneys). Ramadan brings a transformed atmosphere to Djibouti City, with evening street life and markets coming alive after sunset — if you're respectful of local customs and prepared for restricted daytime services, it can be a culturally rich time to visit.
