Weather in Dominica

Dominica's lush, volcanic landscape owes its extraordinary greenness to the high rainfall that drenches the island year-round, particularly in the mountainous interior. This means that unlike many Caribbean islands, Dominica has no truly "dry" season — precipitation can fall at any time. However, the driest and most comfortable months for outdoor activities are January through May, when trade winds keep temperatures around 26–29°C, showers are shorter and less frequent, and hiking conditions in the rainforest are most pleasant. This is prime time for the Waitukubuli National Trail and waterfall hikes.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the most active period in August–October. Hurricane Maria (September 2017) demonstrated Dominica's vulnerability — travelers should monitor forecasts during this period. Despite the risk, September and October are also the months when Dominica celebrates its World Creole Music Festival, attracting visitors for whom the cultural experience outweighs weather uncertainty. Carnival (February) brings the island's most vibrant street celebration, with weeks of music, costume parades, and calypso competitions — timing your visit around Carnival guarantees an immersive cultural experience.
