The best time to visit El Salvador is during the dry season, which runs from November through April. During these months, the weather is consistently sunny and warm, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 32°C across most of the country, and cooler nights at higher elevations around Chalatenango and the mountain towns. December and January are particularly pleasant for visiting volcanoes, archaeological sites, and colonial towns, with low humidity and clear skies that make landscapes vibrant. This is also peak tourist season, so popular spots can be busier and accommodation should be booked in advance.

The rainy season from May through October brings daily afternoon showers, lush green landscapes, and a dramatic increase in river and waterfall flow that can actually enhance visits to natural attractions. Surfers note that the rainy season often produces better swell on the Pacific coast, particularly between June and October. August through October is the most active period for tropical storms and hurricanes in the region, though El Salvador's Pacific coast orientation somewhat reduces direct hurricane risk compared to Caribbean-facing neighbors.
