Weather in Eswatini

Eswatini's best travel season is the dry winter period from May to September. During these months the skies are clear, wildlife is easier to spot around waterholes as vegetation thins, and hiking conditions in the Malolotja highlands are at their most comfortable. Temperatures are mild in the highveld around 15°C to 22°C during the day, though nights can drop close to freezing at higher elevations in June and July, so pack accordingly. The lowveld in winter remains warm and sunny, ideal for game drives.

The summer wet season from October to April brings dramatic thunderstorms and lush green landscapes but also peak heat in the lowveld, where temperatures can exceed 38°C. If cultural ceremonies are your priority, timing your visit around the Umhlanga Reed Dance in late August or early September, or the Incwala ceremony in December or January, will give you access to experiences that few travelers outside the region ever witness.
