Weather in Faroe Islands

Summer from June through August is the most popular and generally the most pleasant time to visit the Faroe Islands. Days are extremely long — around the summer solstice you can hike until past midnight in full daylight — and the islands turn intensely green. Wildflowers cover the hillsides, puffins are nesting on the cliffs, and the weather, while never truly guaranteed, is at its most cooperative. Average summer temperatures hover between 11°C and 16°C, which feels cool to visitors from warmer climates but is considered perfectly comfortable by local standards.

July and August bring the peak of tourist season — book accommodation early as capacity is genuinely limited. September is a beautiful shoulder month when crowds thin, heather on the hilltops turns purple, and the quality of light becomes particularly dramatic for photography. Winter from November to February is wild and stormy, but the possibility of seeing the northern lights combined with complete solitude makes it appealing to adventurous travelers. The Ólavsøka national holiday on July 28-29 is the biggest cultural festival of the year, centered on Tórshavn's harbor with boat races, music, and celebrations that the whole island attends.
