Weather in Gambia

The Gambia's dry season, from November through May, is universally considered the best time to visit. Temperatures during these months range from a comfortable 18°C at night to around 35°C in the afternoon, skies are predominantly blue, and the roads remain passable. November to February is peak tourist season for good reason: the harmattan dust from the Sahara settles, wildlife congregates near permanent water sources, and migratory birds from Europe and North Africa add to the already-impressive resident species count. Beach conditions are excellent during these months.

March through May remains pleasant and increasingly affordable as European tourists head home, making it a great period for budget-conscious visitors who want warm weather without the crowds. The rainy season runs from June to October, bringing lush green landscapes that transform the countryside dramatically. Some lodges and tour operators close during this period, but adventurous travelers find the wet season rewarding: the landscape is spectacularly fertile, baby animals are abundant, and prices drop significantly. Just be prepared for afternoon downpours and muddy roads in rural areas.
