Weather in Germany

Germany rewards visitors year-round, but the shoulder seasons of May-June and September-October offer the most consistently rewarding experiences. Late spring brings the famous asparagus season — "Spargel" fever grips the country from April to June, with restaurants dedicating entire menus to white asparagus — along with pleasant temperatures and blooming landscapes along the Rhine and Moselle wine valleys. The countryside is brilliant green, outdoor café culture kicks into gear, and crowds have not yet reached summer peaks.

September and October are particularly special for wine lovers, as harvest festivals called "Weinfeste" fill the Rhineland, Mosel, and Baden wine regions with tastings, parades, and outdoor feasting. Oktoberfest in Munich, held from mid-September through early October, is the world's most famous beer festival and a genuinely exuberant spectacle — though booking accommodation many months in advance is essential. Christmas market season from late November through December transforms German towns and cities into enchanting winter scenes, with the markets in Nuremberg, Cologne, and Rothenburg among the most celebrated in Europe. Summer is ideal for the Baltic coast and mountain hiking, but popular sites see significant tourist volumes.
