Weather in Gibraltar

Gibraltar enjoys a Mediterranean climate that makes it a pleasantly year-round destination. Spring, from March to May, is arguably the finest time to visit: temperatures are warm but not scorching, wildflowers bloom across the Upper Rock, and the skies are reliably clear for the stunning views across the Strait to Morocco. April and May are particularly good for migratory bird watching — Gibraltar sits on one of Europe's most important raptor and songbird migration routes, and thousands of birds of prey funnel through the narrow strait each spring.

Summer, from June through August, brings the hottest and driest conditions, with temperatures regularly reaching 30°C. Crowds increase and the cable car to the Upper Rock sees longer queues, but the sea conditions are ideal if you want to combine your visit with a dip across the border in Spain. Autumn mirrors spring in pleasantness and is another excellent birding season, particularly October when large numbers of raptors including eagles and hawks move south. Winter is mild by northern European standards — rarely cold, occasionally windy — and the Rock is wonderfully uncrowded. Gibraltar is easily combined with a day trip to Algeciras, Tarifa, or Ronda in Spain.
