Weather in Grenada

Grenada sits just below the hurricane belt and benefits from a more reliable and milder weather pattern than many Caribbean islands. The dry season from January to May offers the classic Caribbean postcard conditions: brilliant sunshine, low humidity, cooling trade winds, and minimal rainfall. This is peak season for beach holidays, sailing, and diving. February and March are particularly lovely, with the island at its greenest from December rains and the dry weather making the interior hiking trails comfortable. The Grenada Sailing Festival in late January draws yachtsmen from across the region.

The wet season from June to December brings more frequent afternoon showers but also a lush, less-crowded version of the island with significantly lower accommodation prices. Despite being outside the main hurricane track, Grenada was devastated by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Hurricane Emily in 2005, so September and October remain the months of greatest caution. The Spicemas carnival in August falls within the wet season but is an unmissable cultural event worth planning around despite the weather. Diving and snorkeling conditions at the Underwater Sculpture Park are generally excellent year-round, with visibility often exceeding 20 metres.
