Weather in Guernsey

The best time to visit Guernsey is from May through September, when the island enjoys its warmest and sunniest weather. June and July are particularly pleasant, with long daylight hours, sea temperatures warm enough for swimming, and all outdoor attractions fully open. The island averages more sunshine hours than much of mainland Britain during these months, and the cliff-top wildflowers are at their most vivid in late spring and early summer. This is prime season for cycling, coastal walking, and sailing, and the harbors are lively with visiting yachts and day-trippers from nearby islands.

Autumn, from September through October, is a quieter and underrated time to visit. The summer crowds thin considerably, accommodation prices drop, and the sea retains enough warmth for hardy swimmers. October brings spectacular autumnal colour to the wooded inland valleys, and local produce — including Guernsey tomatoes, seafood, and wine from the island's small vineyards — is at its finest. Winter is mild by British standards but sees reduced ferry and flight schedules, and many smaller attractions close. However, the dramatic coastal storms can be thrilling to watch from a clifftop in January or February for those who enjoy off-season solitude.
