Weather in Guinea

The best time to visit Guinea is during the dry season, which runs from November through April. During these months, temperatures are warm but manageable — ranging from about 25°C to 35°C on the coast — and the roads, many of which are unpaved, are far more passable than during the rains. November and December are particularly pleasant in the Fouta Djallon highlands, where the air is crisp and clear after the rains have cleared the vegetation to a vivid green. Wildlife viewing is also easier during the dry months when animals congregate around remaining water sources.

The rainy season runs from May through October and transforms the country dramatically. The Fouta Djallon's waterfalls swell to their most spectacular levels, and the landscape turns a lush, almost luminescent green. However, heavy rains make many roads impassable for standard vehicles, accommodation options outside Conakry become harder to reach, and humidity on the coast becomes oppressive. If you plan to travel during the rainy season, a 4x4 vehicle is essential for any journey into the interior, and flexibility in your itinerary is key as plans regularly change due to road conditions.
