Weather in Guyana

Guyana has two dry seasons: the main dry season runs from February through April, and a shorter one from August through October. The main dry season is generally considered the best time to visit — roads are more passable, river levels drop to reveal sandy beaches and easier wildlife spotting, and the weather at Kaieteur Falls is typically clear enough for flights to operate reliably. Temperatures across the country remain relatively consistent year-round at around 27°C to 32°C, though the interior savannah can get significantly hotter during dry periods.

The wet seasons — the long rains from May to July and shorter rains from November to January — transform the landscape. The Rupununi savannah floods extensively, creating vast shallow wetlands that attract extraordinary concentrations of birds, caimans, and aquatic wildlife. Experienced wildlife guides and specialist tour operators often prefer visiting during the wet season precisely because of this wildlife spectacle, though access to some lodges and trails becomes more challenging. Kaieteur Falls is arguably at its most dramatic when the Potaro River runs full and powerful — if you can secure a flight in, the sight during high water is unforgettable.
