Weather in Hungary

Spring — particularly April through June — is the finest season to visit Hungary. Temperatures are warm but not oppressive (18–24°C), the countryside blooms with poppies and wildflowers, and outdoor terraces fill with locals enjoying coffee and conversation in Budapest's ruin bars and square cafés. The Budapest Spring Festival in late March and April brings world-class classical music, opera, and folk performances to the city's concert halls and riverside venues, making it one of Central Europe's great cultural events.

Late summer and autumn (August–October) offer a close second: warm days, harvest festivals in wine country around Eger and Tokaj, and the iconic Sziget Festival in August — one of Europe's largest music gatherings. The Tokaj wine harvest in October is a particularly magical time to visit the northeast, when golden fog drifts over vineyards laden with the aszú grapes used to make Hungary's celebrated sweet wine. Winter in Budapest can be cold (−5 to 5°C) but is atmospheric — Christmas markets line Vörösmarty Square, and the thermal baths are more appealing than ever when steam rises from the outdoor pools against a winter sky.
