Weather in Indonesia

Indonesia straddles the equator, giving most of the archipelago a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season from May to September and the wet season from October to April. The dry season is widely considered the best time to visit, especially for popular destinations like Bali, Lombok, and Java. July and August are peak months, bringing clear skies ideal for diving, hiking, and exploring temples. The shoulder months of May and September offer similar weather with smaller crowds and lower prices.

Because Indonesia is so vast, the best time to visit varies by region. Sumatra and Kalimantan (Borneo) receive rainfall year-round but are most accessible from June to October. The Komodo National Park is best visited between April and December. The Maluku Islands and Raja Ampat in West Papua are most spectacular for underwater visibility from October to April.
