Ireland's climate is mild and maritime, meaning it is theoretically visitable year-round, though each season offers a distinctly different experience. June to August is the most popular period, with long daylight hours (up to 17 hours in midsummer), the warmest temperatures (typically 18–22°C), and the best conditions for outdoor activities like hiking the Wicklow Mountains or kayaking around the Dingle Peninsula. July and August are peak tourist months, so booking accommodation well in advance is essential, particularly in popular areas like Killarney, Galway, and the Ring of Kerry.

Spring (April and May) is a wonderful time to visit — the countryside erupts in blossoms and new growth, crowds are manageable, and the light has a luminous quality beloved by photographers. September and October offer beautiful autumn colours, harvest festivals, and a more relaxed pace. Winter (November to February) is cold and wet but rarely freezing; Irish Christmas markets, cosy pub sessions, and the atmospheric quality of misty ancient ruins have their own charm. The famous Irish rain is present year-round, so a good waterproof jacket is essential regardless of when you visit.
