Weather in Jamaica

The best time to visit Jamaica is between December and April, during the dry season when trade winds temper the Caribbean heat to a glorious 25–30°C, rainfall is minimal, and the island is at its most accessible. This period is high season — prices are higher and resorts can be busy — but the weather reliability and the comfort of exploring the interior and beaches without tropical downpours makes it worthwhile. The Accompong Maroon Festival in January is a fascinating cultural event in the Cockpit Country, celebrating Maroon heritage with traditional ceremonies and music.

The shoulder months of May and November offer a good balance of lower prices and generally fine weather, with May bringing the peak of the flowering season to the Blue Mountains and November seeing the end of the Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane season runs officially from June through November, with the most active months being August, September, and October — travel insurance is essential during this window, and monitoring weather forecasts becomes necessary. Summer (June–August) is still visited by many, and the Reggae Sumfest festival in Montego Bay in July is one of the Caribbean's great music events, but be prepared for intense heat and occasional rain.
