Weather in Jordan

The ideal time to visit Jordan is during spring, from March through May, when temperatures are mild and pleasant across the country and wildflowers carpet the highland valleys. Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea are all comfortably enjoyable at this time of year before the intense heat of summer arrives. March and April are especially beautiful in the northern highlands around Ajloun and Dana, where hiking trails pass through oak and pistachio forests in full bloom. Autumn, particularly October and November, is an equally fine time, with warm days, cool evenings, and golden desert light that photographers particularly prize.

Summer, from June through August, brings intense heat — temperatures in Wadi Rum and the Jordan Valley can exceed 40°C — making outdoor sightseeing uncomfortable and physically demanding. The Dead Sea shore and Aqaba are bearable in the mornings and evenings but brutal at midday. Winter in Jordan, from December through February, is cooler and occasionally rainy, particularly in Amman and the northern highlands, but the desert south remains accessible and can even experience brief snow flurries in Petra, which is a dramatic and crowd-free experience if you are prepared. Ramadan, whose dates shift annually, brings a different and fascinating cultural atmosphere but some practical considerations for dining during daylight hours.
