Weather in Kiribati

Kiribati sits near the equator, so temperatures remain consistently warm year-round, hovering between 28°C and 33°C. The most comfortable time to visit is during the drier season from March to October, when trade winds bring relatively lower humidity and less rainfall. This period is particularly recommended for Tarawa and the Gilbert Islands, where the breezes make outdoor activities and inter-island travel more pleasant.

Christmas Island (Kiritimati) is the main draw for specialised visitors, and the bonefishing season peaks between March and November when conditions are ideal for wade fishing across the vast shallow flats. The wet season from November to March brings heavier rainfall and can occasionally disrupt small aircraft and boat connections between atolls. However, diving conditions in the Phoenix Islands can be spectacular year-round, with visibility regularly exceeding 30 metres in the warm, clear waters of this protected marine reserve.
