Weather in Latvia

Latvia experiences four very distinct seasons, and each offers a different but worthwhile travel experience. Summer (June–August) is by far the most popular time to visit, with long daylight hours, warm temperatures (20–25°C), and the famous white nights around the June solstice when it barely gets dark at all. Jāņi (Midsummer) celebrations on the night of June 23rd are not to be missed — bonfires burn across the countryside and the air fills with folk songs. Beach season at Jūrmala and the Baltic coast peaks from July to August.

Autumn (September–October) is quieter and beautiful, with amber and gold foliage transforming the Gauja Valley and forests into a painter's landscape, and mushroom and berry foraging reaching its peak. Winter (November–February) is cold and dark but atmospheric — Riga's Christmas market is one of Europe's finest, and snow-dusted medieval rooftops create a fairy-tale cityscape. Spring (March–May) brings awakening forests and the gradual return of warmth, with migratory birds filling the coastal wetlands. May is an excellent shoulder-season choice with warming temperatures and few crowds.
