Weather in Liberia

Liberia has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons, and the timing of your visit will significantly shape your experience. The dry season from November to April is by far the best time to travel. During these months, roads are passable, river crossings are manageable, and the lush post-rain forests are accessible without the constant downpours that characterize the rainy season. Temperatures remain warm throughout the year, typically between 24°C and 32°C, with coastal breezes offering relief along the beaches.

The rainy season from May to October can be dramatic, with some regions receiving over 4,000mm of rainfall annually. During the heaviest rains between June and August, many rural roads become impassable, access to Sapo National Park and remote communities can be cut off entirely, and travel becomes exhausting and unpredictable. However, the rains transform the landscape into extraordinary greenery, river levels swell dramatically, and lodges and beaches are even quieter than usual. If you plan to visit during the shoulder months of May or October, prepare for intermittent rains and check road conditions carefully. December through February offers the most reliable combination of dry weather, open roads, and vibrant beach conditions.
