Weather in Malta

Malta enjoys one of Europe's most reliably sunny climates, making it a rewarding year-round destination, though your choice of when to visit will affect the character of your trip. The spring months from March to May are arguably the most beautiful time of year — wildflowers carpet the clifftops and valleys, temperatures are warm but not extreme (typically 18–24°C), the sea is calm, and the islands are blissfully uncrowded. Easter in Malta is a magnificent spectacle, with elaborate religious processions in every town and village drawing both local devotees and respectful visitors.

Summer from June to September brings the guaranteed heat and sunshine that make Malta one of Europe's most popular beach destinations, with temperatures regularly reaching 35°C and the sea warming to a bathwater-like 27°C. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months, when Valletta, the Blue Lagoon, and the coastal resorts are at maximum capacity. If you can visit in June or September, you will still enjoy magnificent beach weather with notably fewer crowds. Autumn (October–November) is mild, pleasant, and increasingly popular for cultural tourism, diving, and walking. Winters are mild by European standards — rarely below 10°C — and the islands retain their charm for history-focused travelers who prefer empty streets and half-price accommodation.
