Weather in Mauritius

Mauritius has two distinct seasons that significantly affect the experience of visiting. The warm and wet summer season runs from November through April. During this period, temperatures range from 25°C to 35°C, humidity is high, and the island occasionally experiences tropical cyclones, particularly between January and March. Despite the rain, summer has its rewards — lush green landscapes, lower hotel rates outside the peak Christmas–New Year period, and vibrant Hindu festivals. Cyclone risk should be factored into travel planning and insurance.

The cooler, drier winter season from May through October is widely considered the best time to visit. Temperatures are pleasantly warm (18–24°C), trade winds keep humidity comfortable, and the sea is calm and crystal clear, making it ideal for snorkelling, diving, and deep-sea fishing. The southeast trade winds make the western coast sheltered and calm during winter while the east can be breezy. July and August are peak season with higher hotel prices, particularly for European visitors on school holidays. For the best balance of good weather, competitive prices, and fewer crowds, May–June and September–October are ideal shoulder-season windows.
