Weather in Mayotte

The best time to visit Mayotte is during the dry season, which runs from May through November. During these months, the weather is sunny and dry, winds are moderate, and the lagoon is at its most transparent and diver-friendly. June through October offers the finest diving and snorkeling conditions, and this period also coincides with the humpback whale migration season from July through October, when pods of whales pass through Mayotte's waters on their way between Antarctic feeding grounds and warmer Indian Ocean breeding areas. Sea turtle nesting peaks between June and September, and boat trips to observe turtle and dugong activity are most productive during these months.

The wet season, from December through April, brings higher temperatures, heavy rainfall, and the risk of cyclones, particularly in January and February. The lagoon can become murky with runoff after heavy rains, reducing visibility for water activities. However, the wet season also brings dramatic green landscapes and fewer tourists, making it the quieter and cheaper period to visit if you are comfortable with unpredictable weather. April and November represent shoulder months with improving or settling conditions and lower visitor numbers, making them a good compromise for budget-conscious travelers who still want reasonable weather for outdoor activities.
