Weather in Mexico

Mexico's best time to visit varies by region given the country's enormous size and diverse climates, but the dry season from November through April is generally the most comfortable period for travel across most of the country. Mexico City and the central highlands enjoy mild, sunny weather from December through March, while the Yucatán Peninsula and Caribbean coast are at their most appealing from November through May, with clear skies, warm seas, and reduced risk of hurricanes. The Pacific coast resorts of Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos enjoy warm, dry conditions throughout the winter months, making them popular escapes from North American winters.

The summer and early autumn months bring the rainy season to most of Mexico, which typically means afternoon showers rather than all-day rain, and the landscapes are dramatically greener and more beautiful. Hurricane season on both coasts runs from June through November, with the Caribbean side — particularly the Yucatán — most exposed during September and October. However, summer is the peak season for whale watching in Baja California, where gray whales gather in the sheltered lagoons of Magdalena Bay and Guerrero Negro from January through March. The Día de los Muertos festivities in late October and early November are among the most extraordinary cultural experiences in the country and worth building a trip around.
