Weather in Moldova

The best time to visit Moldova is from late spring through early autumn, with May, June, September, and October being particularly appealing. Spring brings the countryside to life with blossoming orchards, green hills, and mild temperatures in the 15-20°C range that are perfect for cycling through the wine country and exploring monastery trails. The Orheiul Vechi rock monastery and the Cave Monasteries of the Dniester gorge are especially beautiful in spring and autumn light. Summer in July and August can be hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 30°C, but the long days make sightseeing comfortable and the outdoor wine events and village festivals are at their peak.

Autumn is arguably Moldova's finest season for visitors. September and October bring harvest time to the vineyards, when the countryside glows in gold and amber and wine cellars open their doors for tastings and grape-treading events. The National Wine Day, held on the first weekend of October, is Moldova's most celebrated annual festival and is centered in Chișinău with wine producers from across the country showcasing their best vintages to tens of thousands of visitors. Winter visits, from December through February, are cold and quiet, with temperatures occasionally falling below freezing, but the festive season and traditional Orthodox Christmas celebrations in January provide cultural highlights for those who brave the chill.
