Weather in Namibia

The best time to visit Namibia depends on what you want to experience. For wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park, the dry season from May to October is ideal. During these months, vegetation thins out and animals congregate around waterholes, making sightings frequent and dramatic. Temperatures are comfortable during the day, though nights can be cold in June and July, dropping to near zero in some areas.

The wet season from November to April transforms the landscape, bringing green carpets to the desert and attracting migratory birds to Namibia's wetlands — a paradise for birdwatchers. While game viewing is harder in thick vegetation, the Namib Desert and Sossusvlei are accessible year-round, and the dramatic storms that roll across the landscape during summer can create extraordinary photographic opportunities. Avoid visiting during the peak heat of January and February in the interior, when temperatures can exceed 40°C.
