Weather in Nicaragua

The best time to visit Nicaragua is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, the Pacific coast enjoys sunny skies and low humidity, making it ideal for exploring colonial cities, hiking volcanoes, and enjoying the beach. The highlands around Matagalpa and Jinotega are pleasantly cool year-round but particularly inviting during the dry season when coffee harvest activity adds a lively buzz to the region.

The wet season from May to October brings daily afternoon rains, particularly on the Pacific side, though mornings are usually clear. The Caribbean coast operates on a different weather pattern — it can rain heavily there at almost any time of year, with peak wet periods in June–July and October–November. Surfers seeking the Pacific's best waves tend to visit from April to October, when northwest swells arrive. Travelling during the wet season offers the advantage of lush green landscapes and fewer tourists, though some rural roads become impassable after heavy rain.
