Weather in Niger

The best time to visit Niger is from October to February, during the cool dry season. Temperatures during this period are manageable — ranging from around 20°C at night to 35°C during the day — making exploration of desert landscapes and historical sites far more comfortable than during the brutal summer heat. The harmattan wind blows in from the north during December and January, occasionally reducing visibility with fine dust haze, but otherwise conditions are excellent.

March to May sees temperatures climb dramatically, often exceeding 45°C in the desert regions, making travel extremely challenging and potentially dangerous. The wet season from June to September brings welcome rain to the south, turning the Sahel greener and reviving the Niger River, but flooding and impassable roads can complicate travel. This period also coincides with the Cure Salée nomadic festival in September, when thousands of Tuareg and Wodaabe herders gather — a rare and spectacular event for those who plan well in advance.
