Weather in Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island has a mild, subtropical climate year-round, making it suitable to visit in any season. The most popular time is from September to May, when temperatures range from a pleasant 17°C to 25°C and rainfall is moderate. The island's wildflower season in October and November adds colour to the already lush landscape. The summer months of December to February are warm and occasionally humid, with brief afternoon showers that refresh the island's greenery without typically disrupting outdoor activities.

Winter from June to August is the coolest season, with temperatures dropping to around 15°C at night, but the island remains pleasant for walking, sightseeing, and visiting the Kingston World Heritage Area. Whale watching — particularly humpback whales migrating between their Antarctic feeding grounds and Pacific breeding areas — is possible from June to August. The island is busy around Australian school holidays, particularly December-January and Easter, so book accommodation in advance if visiting during these periods.
