Weather in North Korea

The most popular and comfortable time to visit North Korea is from April to June, when spring brings cherry blossoms, mild temperatures in the 15–25°C range, and clear skies ideal for photography and outdoor exploration. The countryside is green and beautiful, and the weather in Pyongyang is genuinely pleasant. September and October offer similarly favourable conditions as summer heat dissipates and autumn foliage adds colour to the mountains and parks.

July and August are hot and humid, with temperatures regularly exceeding 30°C and occasional monsoon rains affecting travel. However, July is also when some of the country's most significant national celebrations — including the anniversary of the Korean War armistice on 27 July — occur, and spectacular public events may be accessible to tourists during this period. Winter from December to February is bitterly cold in Pyongyang, with temperatures often dropping well below zero, but the stark winter landscapes have their own austere beauty and tourist numbers are at their lowest.
