Weather in North Macedonia

The best time to visit North Macedonia is during spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October), when temperatures are pleasant, the landscapes are green or golden, and the main tourist sites are accessible without summer crowds. Spring is particularly beautiful, with wildflowers carpeting the mountain slopes and the vineyards of the Tikvesh region in fresh green growth. Temperatures in Skopje average a comfortable 18–25°C during these shoulder seasons.

Summer (July to August) is popular but can be very hot in Skopje and the central valleys, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C. Lake Ohrid is the destination of choice during these months, when the lakeshore transforms into a lively summer resort and the water reaches swimming temperature. The Ohrid Summer Festival (July–August) is a strong draw. Winter brings snow to the mountains, and the Mavrovo and Popova Shapka ski resorts attract domestic and regional skiers from December to March, though many smaller attractions may have reduced hours.
