Weather in Paraguay

The best time to visit Paraguay is during the cooler and drier months of May through September. Winters in Paraguay (June–August) are mild and pleasant, with temperatures in Asunción ranging from around 10°C to 25°C — ideal for exploring the Jesuit Missions, walking the capital's historic streets, and venturing into the Chaco on wildlife safari. The dry conditions also make roads in the Chaco more navigable, as heavy rains can render many tracks impassable in the wet season. July and August see some of the most important traditional festivals, making this a culturally rich time to visit.

Spring in September and October brings warming temperatures and the blossoming of lapachos — Paraguay's national tree — which erupts in spectacular pink and yellow flowers across roadsides and plazas countrywide. The summer months of December through March bring intense heat (regularly above 40°C), high humidity, and significant rainfall, particularly in Asunción and eastern Paraguay. If you visit in summer, plan activities for early mornings and evenings and embrace the national habit of long midday breaks. The Carnival season in February and early March brings festive energy to towns across the country.
