Weather in Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo has an equatorial climate with two wet and two dry seasons. The best time to visit for wildlife viewing and general travel is during the dry seasons: the long dry season from June to September and the shorter dry season in December and January. During these months, forest trails are more passable, river levels drop to reveal wildlife-rich banks, and gorilla tracking conditions in Odzala-Kokoua are at their most favorable. June through August is particularly good for visiting the northern national parks.

The wet seasons — mid-September to mid-December and February to May — bring heavy rainfall that can make roads impassable and jungle hiking challenging. However, the forest is extraordinarily lush and green during these periods, and some birdwatchers prefer the rainy season for its wealth of migrant species. Brazzaville is accessible year-round with reasonable infrastructure, though travel to more remote areas like the Likouala wetlands in the north requires careful planning regardless of season.
