Weather in Réunion

The best time to visit Réunion is during the dry season from May to November, when the climate is cooler and clearer. During these austral winter months, temperatures on the coast remain pleasantly warm at 20–25°C (68–77°F), the lagoon waters are calm and excellent for snorkeling and diving, and hiking conditions in the calderas and around Piton de la Fournaise are at their best. July and August see the most consistent weather but also the highest number of visitors — book accommodation early.

The wet season from December to April brings heavy rainfall to the island's interior and increases the risk of tropical cyclones, particularly between January and March. This period sees frequent trail closures in the calderas due to landslide risk and flash flooding. However, the coastline remains enjoyable during drier spells, and waterfall volume in the cirques reaches spectacular levels. Late March and April mark the transition out of cyclone season and often offer lush green landscapes before the dry season crowds arrive.
