Weather in Romania

The best time to visit Romania is from May through September, when the country is at its most accessible and visually stunning. Late spring (May–June) is ideal for the Carpathians — wildflowers carpet alpine meadows, hiking trails are open, and temperatures in Transylvania sit comfortably between 18–24°C. This period also coincides with rural festivals and the Easter celebrations (which can fall in April or May) that showcase traditional village culture at its most vibrant.

July and August bring warmth and activity throughout the country, including Black Sea beach resorts like Mamaia and Vama Veche, though accommodation books out well in advance. Autumn is spectacular — September and October dress the Carpathian forests in gold and scarlet, and the wine harvest season fills the Prahova Valley and Moldova regions with activity. Winter (December–February) is best for skiing at Poiana Brasov and Sinaia, and Christmas markets in Sibiu and Brașov rank among Central Europe's most atmospheric. Bucovina's painted monasteries are accessible year-round, and their frescoes glow most vividly against autumn or winter skies.
