Weather in Saint Pierre and Miquelon

The best time to visit Saint Pierre and Miquelon is from late June through September, when the weather is at its most hospitable, the days are long, and ferry and flight connections from Newfoundland operate at their most frequent. July and August are the peak months, when temperatures reach a comfortable 15–20°C, wildflowers bloom across the moorlands, migratory birds are abundant, and the community organizes its summer festivals including Bastille Day on July 14, celebrated with genuine French festivity. The harbor comes to life with fishing boats and the occasional visiting yacht, and the restaurants and shops operate at full capacity.

Spring and early summer (May–June) can be rewarding for visitors who don't mind cooler temperatures and the chance of lingering sea fog that gives the islands their mysterious, dramatic character. The fog is simply part of the experience and adds an atmospheric quality to walks along the cliffs and moorland trails that sunny weather cannot replicate. Autumn in September and October brings spectacular colors to the low vegetation and exceptional birdwatching as vast numbers of migratory species pass through the islands on their Atlantic flyway. Winter is deeply quiet and only for the most intrepid, with ferry services reduced and the population essentially self-sufficient through the long, cold, dark months.
