Weather in Samoa

The best time to visit Samoa is during the dry season, which runs from May through October. These months bring lower humidity, less rainfall, cooler evenings, and the calmest sea conditions for snorkeling and diving around Upolu's reefs. June through September is the sweet spot — temperatures sit comfortably between 25°C and 30°C (77°F–86°F), and while brief tropical showers can still occur, they rarely disrupt activities for long. The Teuila Festival, held in Apia each September, celebrates Samoan culture with dance, tattooing demonstrations, and traditional sports, making it an excellent time to visit if cultural immersion is your priority.

The wet season from November through April brings the risk of tropical cyclones, heavy downpours, and high humidity. Samoa has been struck by severe cyclones in the past, most devastatingly by Cyclone Evan in 2012. Despite the risks, the wet season has its own appeal — waterfalls run at their most spectacular, the landscape turns a deep, almost luminous green, and accommodation prices drop significantly. If visiting during these months, January and February tend to carry the highest cyclone risk, so December and April represent better wet-season windows if flexibility in travel timing is an option.
